What are the Requirements to Join the Merchant Navy as a GP Rating?

To join as a GP Rating, candidates must have the right academic qualifications, physical fitness, and medical standards. GP Ratings are trained to work in both Deck and Engine departments, assisting officers in navigation, maintenance, and engine room operations.

Eligibility Criteria for GP Rating

  • Age: 17 to 25 years

  • Educational Qualification:

    • 10th pass with 40% aggregate marks (English, Science, and Mathematics must be passed)

    • OR 12th pass (any stream, including vocational) with 40% aggregate

    • OR ITI (2 years) from a government-approved institute with minimum 40% aggregate

  • Physical Standards:

    • Minimum height: 157 cm

    • Weight: Proportionate to height

    • Eyesight: 6/6 vision, no color blindness

  • Medical Fitness: As per DG Shipping standards

  • Nationality: Indian
