What are the Requirements to Join the Merchant Navy as a Fitter?     

A Fitter (Marine Fitter/Engine Fitter) plays a crucial role in maintaining and repairing machinery, pipelines, and ship equipment in the Engine Department. Candidates must have the right academic qualifications, trade skills, and medical fitness to be eligible.

Eligibility Criteria for Fitter (Marine/Engine Fitter)

  • Age: 17 to 25 years

  • Educational Qualification:

    • 10th pass with Science & Mathematics

    • ITI Fitter Trade (from Govt. recognized institute) with minimum 40% aggregate

    • Must have completed NCVT/SCVT certified course

  • Physical Standards:

    • Minimum height: 157 cm

    • Weight: Proportionate to height

    • Eyesight: 6/6, no color blindness

  • Medical Fitness: Must be fit as per DG Shipping medical guidelines

  • Nationality: Indian
