India to Commission First Indigenous Deep Sea Support Vessel “Nistar”
Pune | July 10, 2025 – The Indian maritime sector is set to witness a significant boost with the commissioning of “Nistar”, India’s first indigenous Diving Support Vessel (DSV). Measuring 118 meters in length and nearly 10,000 tons, the ship is equipped with state-of-the-art systems for Deep Sea Saturation Diving and Rescue Operations up to 300 meters depth.
The vessel, designed and constructed by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, will be commissioned at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on July 18, in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Nistar will join the Eastern Naval Command to provide specialized support for submarine operations, deep sea diving, and rescue missions.
DSVs like Nistar are advanced platforms equipped with complex diving systems and Deep Submergence Rescue Vessels (DSRVs), enabling safe and efficient maritime operations in challenging deep-sea environments.
